Kamilari

At the centre of the South of Crete.

An hour's drive from the airport of Heraklion you will find Kamilari, a quaint, authentic Greek village, with views to the mountain and the sea! Here you can discover the true Greek hospitality.
The beautifully restored houses have ensured that the village has retained its original rural character. Kamilari is located on the outskirts of the Messara Plain where fertile land is used for olive cultivation and all types of vegetables. It also provides the grapes for fine wines from the Messara area.
In the alleys of Kamilari grow Bougainvilleas that a large part of the year are in bloom. In this traditional village many houses are built with local stone and this has ensured that Kamilari is a beautiful village.

Environment

So much to see

Culture, nature, relaxation. Everything in the neighbourhood.

The quiet sandy beach of Kalamaki is only 5 car minutes away, with its cosy boulevard with small restaurants. It is also a nice walk through in an hour. Just a bit further is Komos beach. A quiet and beautiful beach.

On 2.5 km away you can find Phaistos, a world famous excavation of a palace dating from the Minoan period.
Are you a lover of antique culture? Then Gortis, Komos, Agia Triada and in Kamilari itself the Tolos Tombs are a must.

South Crete has beautiful landscapes that invite you to go hiking in the early spring.
You see valleys, gorges, steep slopes or tranquil valleys with olive groves.
Along the way you come across surprising villages, a monastery, a ruin or a beach.
Nature is extraordinary beautiful. With many flowers in the spring and a beautiful budding nature.

Visit the picturesque, typical Cretan villages in the area. Pitsidia, Sivas, Voros, Mires, Timpaki, and many more: honest, and barely discovered.
You will find more tourists in Matala, Agia Galini and Spili, but those are nice villages too.

Of course you can also easily reach Chania, Rethymno and Heraklion from Kamilari. The roads on Crete are good and you can enjoy the rugged landscape, quiet beaches, beautiful views and delicious food along the way.
